During the Eighty Years' war, Haarlem strongly opposed Spanish rule. Once in the hands of Willem van Oranje, many Flemings went to the city, whose influences are still visible today. Haarlem is easily accessible by car as well as by public transport. Haarlem has two train stations, an excellent bus connection to Schiphol and is easy to drive from Amsterdam, Utrecht and The Hague. At the city's access roads, you'll find directions for public car parks; in the centre there is little parking on the street.
